History

The vision for Faith Community Church started with Phil and Shanna Davis, who met in Russia in 1998. There they developed a heart for international ministry, seeing how an international community needed a healthy church while living overseas. That call was affirmed when Phil joined the staff of Uptown Church in Charlotte, NC, which brought him on in order to send him out as an international church planter.

In 2002, the Davises visited a number of different cities in Europe to see where God might lead them to plant a church. Prague became the leading candidate after that trip, and two future short-term trips with friends and supervisors helped confirm that decision. World Harvest Mission worked alongside Uptown Church in training and supporting the future church.

Phil and Shanna moved to Prague in 2005 along with Chris and Laura Syvertsen. The Davises hosted a weekly Bible study in their home, which eventually became the core team for Faith Community. The original mission team of the Davis and Syvertsen families grew to include several others, and now the mission team makes up the church staff –people whose main vocational role in Prague is to work for Faith Community.

Faith Community Church had its first service on April 15, 2007, in the Café Illusion in Prague 2 and then soon moved two blocks away, where a small Czech church was meeting in a basement space.

In February 2009, we moved to the Dejvice train station, where we held worship and office space for nearly eight years.

We’re currently meeting at Riverside High School as we continue our search for a permanent space.
