Philosophy
We have two firm convictions about our children at Faith Community. One is that they are not a nuisance that needs to be dealt with, but a vital part of our worshipping family. God promises to be God to “you and your children after you” (ref). He cares about our kids; they are part of His household, the church.
A second is that we have a holy responsibility to teach our children God’s Word, training them to be worshippers of Jesus. “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done” (Psalm 78:4). This responsibility belongs especially to parents, but also to the church as a whole.
Children’s Church, then, is much more than babysitting. Our goal is to teach kids the Bible in a way that helps them learn and enjoy it. We want them to love church because they love to worship God!
How Children’s Church Works
Kids are with their families for the first half of the worship service. After the offertory, they are dismissed for Children’s Church.
Currently we have 2 classes: Preschool (2-5) and Early Elementary (6 and up). Both classes use the Gospel Light Sunday School curriculum, which emphasizes how the entire Bible points to Jesus. Each week there is a Bible lesson with activities and a memory verse.
Our nursery (0-24 months) is professionally staffed, and opens 15 minutes before church starts. You are free to bring your kids before or at any point during worship.
On the first Sunday of each month, kids 6 and up remain for the entire worship service. We believe it’s important for our kids to see what happens in “big church” and participate themselves. We take the kids’ presence into account when planning worship on those days.
