Paul has established that by faith we have been set from sin by Jesus – but we, like Paul, still struggle with our own brokenness and sin. What does that mean about us and our faith?
By Grace we are set free from our bondage to sin and the weight of the Law – we are liberated to belong to Jesus!
Because Jesus gives abounding Grace, we are then united to him in his death, burial, and resurrection by faith. This is astounding and confusing!
Because Adam fell into sin, we all fell with him. Our guilt and trespass before God is clear, but Christ has come as the new and better Adam who provides us with super-abounding Grace!
As Paul begins to draw out the implications of being Justified by Faith, he first focuses on the fact that we are now at Peace with God
Paul looks back to Abraham, showing that it was faith that made him righteous, and that God’s promises to us rest on His grace…
Paul now appeals to our Spiritual Fathers – Abraham and David – to illustrate that we are justified by faith and faith alone.
What Paul writes here has been described as “the most important paragraph ever written” … and off the weight of the first few chapters of Romans we can see why! Hope, Redemption, Atonement, Righteousness! All freely offered to us through Faith!
